This year's game is called Lunacy. It is very different from other years. This year, they made it almost impossible to explain the game to people that are not in Robotics. Why? Because its FIRST. Let me try to explain the game...
This is the game animation. It will explain some of the basics. Its ok If you still dont get it.
In the game, our team will compete on an alliance of three versus another alliance of three, with the colors BLUE or RED. There will be fifteen seconds of autonomous mode, in which the robot operates completely by itself based on programs downloaded to the robot's computer. Then there will be two minutes of tele-operated mode, in which human players drive the robot using controllers. To score in this game, our robot must aquire the various game pieces and place them in the opponent's trailer. Human players can also throw game pieces from specified locations around the field. Because the surface designed for low friction, it will be hard for robots to maneuver around the field. During the last twenty seconds of the match, robots can place specialized "super cells" into an opponent's trailer to score fifteen points for each super cell.
| Picture: | Name: | Points: | Number on Field: |
![]() | Moon Rock | 2 pts. Each (Basic Score Ball.) | Up to 120 on field. Each robot can start with 7 in the Robot. |
![]() | Empty Cell | 2 pts. Each (But, if you give an Empty Cell to the people in the corners, you get a Super Cell.) | Up to 8 on field. Each Alliance gets 4. |
![]() | Super Cell | 15 Points Each! (Can only score these in the last 20 seconds of the game.) | Up to 8 on field. Human players can throw these when they exchange for an Empty Cell. (last 20 sec) |
There is always A LOT of confusion with Alliances. Alliances change each match. Our team is not on one Alliance. What it means is that we are with NEW teams each match. How they do it is, put each team into the computer, and it RANDOMIZES the teams and so we could be on the same alliance as one team in one match, but in our next match there is a change we are against them. Its all RANDOM. But most likely, we will not be with or against that team again because there are almost 90 teams in our division (GALILEO).
Ok. Now that you know that. There are 2 Alliances. Just 2. So it's these 3 robots VS these 3 robots.
There is the RED ALLIANCE and the BLUE ALLIANCE. It is also RANDOM each match what color we are.
Also, the way the final score works, is each Alliance team member gets the final score that their color got. So if the RED alliance got a final score of 36, then all 3 teams on that Alliance gets that score. It does not break it up for each team.
